A few weeks ago I was plagued with a horrible sinus infection. When I get sinus infections I usually get them extremely bad and the only cure until this point has been to be be put on antibioitcs. Since I am pregnant I really did not want to do this unless it was absolutely necessary. So, I decided to try some natrual remedies and only go to the doctor if I couldn't get rid of it on my own.
I am excited to share that I was able to get rid of my sinus infection for the first time without antibiotics! I felt awful for about a week, but the remedies I used brought relief within a few days and then it was quickly gone!!! I was so excited one morning to not wake up all clogged up and with a horrible sinus headache!
Trisha's Natural Cure for a Sinus Infection:
-Take 1-3 cloves of garlic a day(Garlic is a wonderful natural antiboitic). To do this get a clove of garlic and chop it up in small pieces. Next drown it in honey. Then take it like a pill and chase it with water. Do not chew it!! If you cannot do this you can also buy garlic pills, but they are not as effective in my opinion. I think it is best to go with the real thing when possible.
-Go and get a Neti Pot (Thanks Melissa for recomending this!) This is a sinus cleanser. You can buy them anywhere--CVS, Walmart, etc. Use this 3 times a day.
-When you make the salt solution add 5 drops of grapefruit seed extract (another great natural antibiotic) for each use.
-Take 1-3 500mg of Vitamin C (I only took 1 since I am pregnant)
When you follow this you should feel relief in a few days and it will be gone within a week or so. I also heard that sometimes before a sinus infection heals it can get worse. I had this happen to me. The first day or two I felt like I was getting worse and was about to go to the doctor, but then it quickly started getting better. Even if you get put on antibiotics from the doctor it can take a few days to work. If this remedy does not work and you are not feeling some relief within a week of doing all of this you may want to head to the doctor.
